I would be very cautious opening a video rental franchise or video rental business right now. The war between Blockbuster and Netflix has dominated the market making it difficult for anyone to compete. If you live in a small community with no Blockbuster videos then you have a shot at success. You will still have to compete with Netflix, but since there will always be those that like to browse for movies you'll have a market.

To keep costs down you might consider a DVD rental kiosk business like DVD Now Kiosk. These easy to use kiosks might do well in high traffic areas or as part of an existing business. I consider these kiosk safer than owning a traditional store because you won't have to compete with the Blockbuster and Netflix giants.
